On June 5, 1999, mother of six, and grandmother of eight, 56 year old
Leona Doucette was struck and thrown onto the hood of a station wagon being
driven by then 19 year old James Dean Abramofsky Jr. Alive and banging on
the hood to stop, Leona slid off as the driver braked. Then, the driver instead
of stopping, or backing up, or even backing up to flee, accelerated and drove
over the helpless woman. As he fled, horrified witness' saw the driver and
his laughing girlfriend toss beer cans out the window. While the prosecutor
asked for a sentence of 12 to 15 years after he pled guilty to vehicular
homicide and leaving the scene of an accident, in a ruling that would help
Boston Judge Isaac Borenstein make Reader's Digest January 2001 issue's 'Year's
Worst Judges', the driver was sentenced to 3-1/2 years in prison and
a 10 year revocation of his drivers license. After serving less than 3 years,
James has now appealed to the Massachusetts Division of Insurance's Board
of Appeal to get his drivers license. His hearing is August 24th. For

motivated road rage.
Jennifer Porter, the Florida school teacher charged with the hit and run
deaths of Bryant Wilkins, 13, and his 3year-old brother, Durontae Caldwell,
in March 2004, pled guilty today.

14 year old Joe Green opened his eyes today after being in a coma the
last 26 days in Seattle, Washington. On July 20th, Joe was struck by a hit
and run driver, who has since been arrested. This week also saw 17 year old
Jake Gray released from the hospital after being critically injured by a
since arrested hit and run driver in Chetco River, Oregon on July 17th.
In Miami, Florida, doctors have told the mother of 14 year old Gina Vavilus
that if she comes out of her coma, she will be brain damaged and never speak
again. Gina was struck by a hit and run driver on August 13th and the driver
remains at large.

This site rarely mention's hit and run deaths of dogs out of respect to
the gravity of human loss, but there has been a rash of them lately that
have caught media attention. A Chicago animal shelter is offering a $2500
reward for information leading to the arrest of the hit and run driver that
struck one of its volunteers, injuring her and killing Brick, a blind rottweiler,
she was walking. The hit and run incident was caught on camera. On Saturday,
K-9 officer, Caesar, was killed when the car he was riding in was forced
off the road by a hit and run driver, which also cost the life of a New Smyrna
Beach, Florida police officer. In Medford, Oregon, a boy walking his
6-month-old Labrador and German shepherd mix in the bicycle lane was forced
to sell his 4 wheeler to pay the veterinary bills when a pickup swerved
on an empty street and severely injured the pup. The pup was a comfort
gift given to 15-year-old Tyler after his older brother died last
winter.

16 year old female driver fleeing from minor hit and run accident in Cape
Coral, Florida, later bails on foot as officer attempts to pull over, and
jumps into canal. Rescuers were unable to save her. In the car they found
a 23 year old male with a gunshot wound to his leg, which he claimed was
accidentally self inflicted. As the girl was a high school honor student,

Former Pennsylvania State Senator Edwin G. Holl succumbed to a stroke Tuesday.
The 88 year old Republican wrote a measure, that later became law, making
leaving the scene of a fatal accident a 3rd-degree felony
Jamaica Gleaner reports that on Jamaican Independence Day a housewife
who had walked by the accident scene in which a passenger in a motorcycle
pillion was killed by a hit and run driver. Minutes later, Maizie Powell
was herself struck and killed by a hit and run driver.
The 28 year old accused driver in the death of 68 year old Abdullah Buang
in Singapore last week, was a survivor of the Singapore Airlines (SIA) crash
in Taiwan five years ago when he struggled to help passengers escape.
